DSD White Face Strutter – New for 2018!

It doesn’t matter if you are a novice turkey hunter, or have several seasons under your belt, it is likely that you have heard about Dave Smith Decoys (DSD).  The ultra-realistic decoy movement began almost 20 years ago when the first custom DSD Canada Goose decoy was created.  Since then, the DSD brand has expanded considerably.  They currently offer decoys for seven (7) different animal species and offer over 25 unique decoys/poses.

New for 2018 is the DSD White Face Strutter.  The original DSD Strutter Decoy was first released back in the Spring of 2011.  Like the DSD Jake, the original DSD Strutter Decoy came with a more “typical” red, white, and blue head color.  A color scheme that is 100% accurate with what you see in the wild, and is also a very popular color scheme used by turkey decoy manufacturers.  Some manufactures do a better job than others of achieving a realistic color scheme, but that is a topic for another time.  The overall body composition of the DSD White Face Strutter isn’t something that is new, however the all white head color scheme is.

So what is with the all white head on the DSD White Face Strutter?  You are likely to get different answers depending on who you are asking.  Some say that the white head of a gobbler signifies that the gobbler is a less dominant, subordinate bird, and others will tell you that it means a gobbler is getting ready to breed.  Both of these explanations sound logical, but after spending almost an hour on the phone talking turkey with Matt Winters (Kansas Premier Outfitters), I’m convinced it is the later of the two.  The white-headed gobbler is ready to make love, not war. Matt worked very closely with the guys at DSD, and from their discussions, a prototype strutter with an all white head was born.  After being part of over 70 turkey kills in 2016 using the prototype white-headed strutter decoy, I think the proof is in the pudding. (Thanks for the success photos, Matt!)

From my very first hunt with the hard bodied DSD Upright Hen, I’ve been a firm believer in using DSD decoys. If you want to draw a turkey in close, and hold them there, it takes realism.  This is especially true for archery hunters and self-filmers.

The new DSD White Head Strutter, like the original DSD Strutter Decoy, will retail for $199.99 and can be ordered directly from DSD’s website at www.davesmithdecoys.com.  They are not currently available for purchase at any retailers, but may be in the future.

PLEASE NOTE: you will need to provide your own turkey fan, primary wings and beard.
