Sitka introduces the “BLIZZARD” and improves classic lines in 2014

IMG_0795Sitka Gear is kicking off the new year with some incredible new insulation technology that has changed the playing field for the late season cold weather hunter. They have also taken a look at some of their classic lines and implemented new features and reinforcements. These new and improved pieces of gear will be available this summer.

Sitka Gear has become the exclusive launch partner for PrimaLoft with the new Down Blend hybrid insulation technology that fuses ultra-fine synthetic fibers with water-repellent down. IMG_0803There are a couple different blends offered by the company that give the consumer the versatility of choosing the fill that will work best for their style of hunting. The Silver Blend is compared to the warmth level of 650 fill down and the Gold Blend steps it up with a weight comparable to 750 fill down. The warmth-to-weight of the new Down Blend technology is very similar to regular down, and the packability is also very much the same as regular down. This hybrid technology really pops when the moisture is factored in. PrimaLoft Down Blends will retain 95% of their warmth when wet and have been proven to dry 4x faster and absorb 9x less water than untreated down.

The Blizzard Series was designed with the western hunter in mind who is fairly stationary during the extreme cold weather during the late season. The Blizzard Jacket has 3-layer GORE-TEX insulated with the PrimaLoft technology that incorporates the blend of 60% 650 fill power white duck down and 40% ultrafine synthetic fibers. Featured next in Sitka’s 2014 line up are the upgrades they have made on their ever popular 90% line. The new and improved 90% jacket and pants are 3x more wind resistant than previous models and also features the micro-grid fleece backer that adds insulation. The new garments are still Screen Shot 2014-01-07 at 1.32.53 AMlightweight with added durability for the rough mid to late season hunts.

The Coldfront Series also received some upgrades and improvements this year. The membrane of 3-layer GORE-TEX and the improved 2 way stretch material makes the face of this line more durable than the previous models but also keeping the ability to remain very quiet. Screen Shot 2014-01-07 at 1.30.26 AMThe pockets on the jacket have been moved higher as to keep contents clear of your packs hip belt and also duals as a way to make rain shed off of your elbows instead of into your pockets. An extended tail has also been added to the Coldfront Jacket to help shed moisture and keeps the wind from entering your body. The pant is built from the same 2 way stretch face fabric and 3-layer GORE-TEX membrane for improved warmth and durability. The pant also features sleek pocket designs and full side zips down the pant legs for easy accessibility on and off.
